The Store Cupboard was started with an idea to provide food support in a different way, where people are as much at the centre of what we do along with the food we provide. We also offer a friendly face and a place where people can feel safe and listened to during the time they are with us.
We stock fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled and frozen food, store cupboard staples and toiletries, all in a normal retail environment. Clients have the freedom to choose their own food, and pay a small membership fee for each weekly shop.
Food is sourced from distribution charities such as the Felix project and City Harvest. We also get surplus produce from the DIG project in Hanwell and local Ealing allotments. Any extra items that are required are purchased using the weekly membership fees or donations from supporters.
Nutritious healthy food is the cornerstone of what we do, and we passionately believe if people are struggling financially they still deserve access to healthy affordable food and toiletries.
While The Store Cupboard can’t help everyone, it does aim to provide a breathing space for those who may be struggling. By bridging the gap with food provisions, providing signposting support, and people to talk to, we also hope to alleviate some of the anxieties and sense of isolation that many people are feeling.
